Removing

Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform.

Align vehicle between columns of vehicle lift and position four support plates at vehicle lift support points specified by vehicle manufacturer.

Clean transmission housing (2) and clutch housing (3)

 Use a commercially available cleaner.

Position transmission housing (2) on the assembly plate

 The transmission housing (2) remains on the assembly plate throughout the entire repair process.

Disassemble

Unscrew and remove bolts (1) securing transmission housing (2) to clutch housing (3)

Heat up transmission housing (2)

 See pictures A.

Heat up the transmission housing (2) evenly at the areas indicated by the crosshatching. Make sure that the radial shaft sealing ring (5) on the axle shaft is not damaged by the flow of hot air.

Detach transmission housing (2) from clutch housing (3)

 See pictures B.

To make detachment easier, place a suitable prying tool between the transmission housing (2) and clutch housing (3) (arrow) and carefully separate the transmission housing (2) from the clutch housing (3).

 A second person may be required.

If necessary, heat up the transmission housing (2) again evenly at the areas indicated by the crosshatching. Make sure that the radial shaft sealing ring (5) on the axle shaft is not damaged by the flow of hot air.

Checking

Check spacer rings (4)

 Check that the spacer rings (4) (if fitted) are clean and seated correctly.

In some cases, there may not be any spacer rings (4) fitted.

Clean sealing surfaces on transmission housing (2) and clutch housing (3)

 Remove any sealing compound residue.

Apply sealing compound to sealing surface of clutch housing (3)

 Applying the sealing compound, see picture C.

 Apply the sealing compound evenly. Make sure that no sealing compound enters the mechanical system of the transmission.

Assemble

Attach transmission housing (2) to clutch housing (3)

 Make sure that the spacer rings (4) (if fitted) do not move during assembly.

 A second person may be required.

If necessary, heat up the transmission housing (2) again evenly at the areas indicated by the crosshatching. Make sure that the radial shaft sealing ring (5) on the axle shaft is not damaged by the flow of hot air.

Screw in bolts (1) securing transmission housing (2) to clutch housing (3)

 Tighten the bolts (1) evenly over the entire circumference.


