Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory

 Rectify any faults in the control units if necessary.

Remove the clutch actuator

Disconnect battery ground line

Remove rear axle shaft

Remove charge air cooler

Remove mixing chamber

Disconnect plug from turning angle sensor (2)


Do not damage the catch tabs,
otherwise the plug no longer locks.

 Installation: Make sure that the plug is locked.

Disconnect plug (3)


Do not damage the catch tabs,
otherwise the plug (3) no longer locks.

 Installation: Make sure that the plug (3) is locked.

Disconnect plug (4) from transmission motor (M17)

 Installation: Make sure that the plug (4) is locked.

Disconnect plug (5)


Do not damage the catch tabs,
otherwise the plug (5) no longer locks.

 Installation: Make sure that the plug (5) is locked.

Remove screw (6) fastening exhaust system bracket (7) to transmission (1)

 Bolt, exhaust system to transmission

Detach both plugs from EDG control unit (N3/9)

 Pull out the detent levers on the plugs towards the rear and disconnect the plugs.

 Installation: Make sure that the plugs are properly locked.

Unclip vacuum line (8) from bracket (9)

Unclip battery wiring harness (10) from bracket (11)

Remove screws (12) and screws (13)

 Installation: First screw in the screws (13) as far as the stop, then tighten the screws (12) and then the screws (13).

Remove bracket (14)

Remove screws (15) from transmission housing

 Screw/bolt, starter to transmission

Remove (left) rear engine mount

Position suitable wooden block between turbocharger and crossmember and lower engine until the turbocharger makes contact

Remove screws (arrows) and remove transmission (1)

Topical note

Notes on bolted connections with self tapping screws

AH00.00-P-0007-01SF

 Installation: Lightly grease transmission shaft.
Pay attention to the different lengths of the screws (arrows). The screws (arrows) must be tightened in a crosswise pattern.
If the transmission (1) is being replaced, the bores for receiving the left rear engine mount on the transmission (1) must be tapped by screwing in self-tapping screws.
