Remove

Remove cap from cylinder head.

Adjust

Set piston of cylinder 1 to top dead center (TDC).

Only rotate the crankshaft in the direction of rotation of the engine.
The timing chain can skip otherwise and cause engine damage.

Install hold-down tool (7b) at exhaust camshaft (1b).

If necessary,



turn crankshaft in direction of engine rotation with counterholder.

Loosen screw (2b).

Fix intermediate gears (3a, 3b) in place relative to each other using locking bolts.

Remove screws of camshaft housing (5) on cylinder head.

 Observe sequence for screws.

Turn intake camshaft (1a) at screw (2a) until marking (arrow) matches with marking at camshaft housing (5).

Install hold-down tool (7a) at intake camshaft (1a).

Install retaining lock for crankshaft.

Tighten screws of camshaft housing (5) on cylinder head.

 Observe sequence for screws.

Tighten screws (6) of hold-down tools(7a,7b) on cylinder head.

Remove screw(2b).

Screw in new screw (2b) and tighten.

 Screw/bolt, camshaft sprocket to camshaft

Remove screws (6) and remove hold-down tools(7a,7b).

Remove locking bolts from intermediate gears (3a, 3b).



Check

Remove locating pin at retaining lock.

Turn engine with retaining lock in direction of engine rotation by two revolutions to top dead center (TDC) of cylinder 1 and lock with locating pin.

Check markings (arrow) at intake camshaft (1a) and exhaust camshaft (1b).

 The markings(arrow) on the intake camshaft(1a) and the exhaust camshaft(1b) must match with markings on the camshaft housing(5).

Attach hold-down tools (7a, 7b).

 Ensure  hold-down tools (7a, 7b) are correctly seated.

If the hold-down tools(7a,7b) cannot be inserted:



repeat adjustment procedure if necessary.



Remove

Remove hold-down tools(7a, 7b).

Remove retaining lock for crankshaft.

Install

Install cap on cylinder head.
