Position  counterholder at screws of belt pulley/vibration damper.

with code HK4 (Rear air conditioning, reinforced)
Also use  counterholder 654 589 03 40 00.

Turn crankshaft with  counterholder in direction of engine rotation until top dead center (TDC) marking (31) at belt pulley/vibration damper matches with mark (34) at crankcase.

 Turn the crankshaft only in the direction of engine rotation.
The timing chain can skip otherwise and cause engine damage.

Also use  counterholder 654 589 03 40 00.

 Piston of cylinder 1 and 4  is now at TDC.

 There is a 1800 mark at the belt pulley/vibration damper opposite the top dead center (TDC) marking (31). If the crankshaft if further turned until the 1800 mark matches with the mark (34), the piston of cylinder 2 and 3 is at TDC.
