Remove/install

Check engine oil level, adjust to correct level if necessary

Engine oil and filter change

Risk of accident caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running

Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Bring engine to operating temperature (approx. 80°C)

Check valve clearance compensation elements (3) on a warmed up engine.

Remove cylinder head cover

Rotate engine at crankshaft until the cam (2) at the valve clearance compensation element (3) to be tested is at its base circle

The cam nose must points upwards.

Checking

Push valve clearance compensation element (3) by hand using the pressure tool (1) (arrow)

Do not use a steel tool as a pressure tool (1).
If pressure is too strong, the valve clearance compensation element (3) will appear to drop, but in reality the valve opens.
If a valve clearance compensation element (3) drops quicker than the other valve clearance compensation elements (3):

Replace valve clearance compensation element (3)
