Cylinder head bolts

 Warning

Risk of injury to skin and eyes suffering scalding from contact with hot coolantspray. Risk of poisoning from swallowing coolant.

Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90 °C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.
Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.

Remove and screw in cylinder head bolt (21) with a suitable, reinforced socket for power screwdrivers. The toothing of the socket that is used must be wear-free.
When using a standard socket wrench socket, the bolt heads will otherwise be damaged and, in extreme cases, the cylinder head bolts (21) can no longer be removed or tightened correctly.

 Installation: Replace cylinder head bolts (21). Slightly oil thread and bolt head contact surfaces of cylinder head bolts (21).

Remove cylinder head (1) from crankcase.

 Aid of helper required.



Clean

Clean sealing surfaces of cylinder head (1) and crankcase.

Blow out all threaded holes for cylinder head bolts (21) in crankcase using compressed air.



Check

Check sealing surfaces of cylinder head (1) and crankcase for cracks and unevenness.


Do not rework sealing surfaces of cylinder head (1) and crankcase.
Leaks and damage may otherwise occur.

Replace cylinder head (1) or crankcase.

Install in the reverse order.



Check

Check engine oil level.

If necessary,



Correct engine oil level.
