Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Remove

Bring engine up to operating temperature (approx. 80°C)

 Only check cylinder leakage when the engine is at normal operating temperature.

Switch off ignition and remove transmitter key

Remove glow plugs

Check

Position piston of cylinder to be checked to top dead center (ignition TDC)


Do not turn engine against direction of engine rotation.
Damage may occur otherwise.

 To do this rotate crankshaft at the belt pulley center bolt in direction of engine rotation.

Screw screw-in piece (1) without check valve into the glow plug hole

 Screw-in fitting

Attach pressure loss tester (4)

 Pressure loss tester

Calibrate the pressure loss tester (4)

 Follow the operating instructions for the pressure loss tester (4).

Check for cylinder leakage



Determine loss of pressure at cylinder

 Pressurize cylinder with compressed air and read off pressure loss at the pressure loss tester (4).

Rectify cause - subject to separate repair order.

Check further cylinders according to engine firing order

Remove compression loss tester (4) and screw-in piece (1)



Install

Install glow plugs
