1 | Start engine and bring to operating temperature | Oil temperature approx. 80°C Only test compression when engine is at operating temperature. | |
2 | Stop engine and switch off ignition | ||
3 | Remove air filter housing | ||
4 | Remove spark plugs | ||
5 | Connect ground cable to battery | ||
6 | Crank engine with starter | To remove combustion residues from the cylinders. | |
| Checking | ||
7 | Press compression recorder (1) on tapped bore of spark plug for first cylinder | The sealing cone of compression recorder (1) must tightly seal tapped bore of spark plug. | |

8 | Turn engine over contact switch (2) for compression recorder (1) with the starter and check compression pressure | | |
9 | Carry out testing procedure in the cylinder order on the remaining cylinders in the same way | ||
10 | Compare pressure readings obtained with specified pressures | Compression installation tolerance or new value | |

If pressure reading is below the minimum compression pressure or if the permissible difference between the individual cylinders is exceeded. Refer to: | |||
Check cylinders for leaks | |||
