Danger! | Risk of explosion caused by escaping natural gas or an overheated compressed-gas tanks when working on natural gas powered vehicles. Risk of frostbite to body parts due to escaping natural gas or from contact with components near the valves when draining compressed-gas tanks. Risk of poisoning or risk of suffocation from inhaling natural gas. | Remove any sources of ignition. Ensure that the work area is adequately ventilated. Wear heat-protective gloves.
1 | Close gas shutoff valves at compressed-gas tanks
Danger! | Risk of accident caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury caused by contusions and burns when working in engine during starting procedure | Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving.
2 | Start the engine and allow it to run with the vehicle stationary until the engine stops on its own. | Push extraction hose onto exhaust pipe. After engine has stopped, switch ignition off. Gas system is adequately emptied after engine stops.
Danger! | Risk of explosion caused by escaping oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of injury caused by caustic burns to eyes, skin and mucous membranes from battery electrolyte (contains diluted sulfuric acid) or metal spatter due to short circuit. Risk of burn injuries caused by short circuit. Risk of poisoning caused by swallowing battery electrolyte (contains diluted sulfuric acid) or absorption of lead over the skin or orifices | No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves and clothing and safety glasses with side guards. Do not place any conductive objects on the battery and avoid any short circuit from battery positive to ground. Only fill liquid battery electrolyte (diluted sulfuric acid) into suitable and appropriately marked containers.
3 | Disconnect ground lead from battery
| Notes on battery | All models | |
4 | Unscrew gas hose (low-pressure side) (1) and gas line (2) at pressure regulator (3)
5 | Undo mounting screws (4) for pressure regulator (3) at left longitudinal frame member.
6 | Unscrew connecting pipes (5) at pressure regulator (3) for gas filter (6)
7 | Remove tension spring (7)
8 | Remove gas filter (6) | To do this, gently turn the pressure regulator (3) until the gas filter drops out. Installation: replace gas filter (6).
9 | Install in the reverse order
10 | Check leaktightness of all closed connections | Moisten the connections all round with soapy suds. Switch ignition on and inspect connections for the formation of bubbles. |
