Remove

Remove left or right front axle shaft

Mount adaptation (1) using two bolts to axle-shaft flange (3)

 Use bolts M10x25.

Fit impact extractor (2) to adaptation (1)

Pull axle-shaft flange (3) using impact extractor (2) out of transmission (4)

 Collect escaping transmission oil.

Remove adaptation (1) using impact extractor (2) from axle shaft flange (3)

When replacing axle-shaft flange (3).

Remove retaining ring (5) from axle shaft flange (3)

Remove radial shaft sealing ring (6) from transmission (4)


Carefully remove radial shaft sealing ring (6).
Otherwise the seat (arrow) on the transmission (4) may be damaged.



Clean

Clean seat (arrow) on transmission (4) and sealing surface on axle-shaft flange (3)

Clean thread and contact surface for front axle shaft on axle shaft flange (3)


The thread and contact surface on the axle shaft flange (3) must be absolutely clean and free of grease.
Otherwise the threaded connection of the front axle shaft on the axle shaft flange (3) may work its way loose when the vehicle is being driven.



Check

Check seat (arrow) on transmission (4) for damage

 If necessary, replace transmission (4).

Check sealing surface on axle-shaft flange (3) for galling and score marks

 If necessary, replace axle-shaft flange (3).

Check thread for mounting front axle shaft onto axle shaft flange (3) for damage

 If necessary, replace axle-shaft flange (3).



Install

Fit spacer ring (7.2) onto drift (7.1)

When replacing the left radial shaft sealing ring (6).

 The  spacer ring (7.2) limits the knock-in depth of the left radial shaft sealing ring (6).

Drive new radial shaft sealing ring (6) using drift (7.1) into transmission (4)

 Coat sealing lip of radial sealing ring (6) with transmission oil.

Install new retaining ring (5) onto axle-shaft flange (3)

Mount adaptation (1) with impact extractor (2) onto axle-shaft flange (3)

When replacing axle-shaft flange (3).

Drive axle-shaft flange (3) into transmission (4)

 The retaining ring (5) must clearly latch into place.

Remove adaptation (1) with impact extractor (2) from axle-shaft flange (3)

Install left or right front axle shaft

Check transmission oil level, adjust to correct level if necessary
