 Warning

Risk of injury to skin and eyes suffering scalding from contact with hot coolantspray. Risk of poisoning from swallowing coolant.

Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90 °C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.
Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.

Open the engine compartment

 Access to carry out maintenance and repair work, varies with body type/make.

Remove the end cover (7) from the expansion tank neck (1)

Check the coolant level and correct if necessary



Dry the expansion tank (1) in the inner part of the filling neck (6)

Fit the rubber element in the adapter (5) by twisting it in the inner diameter of the filling neck (6)

Remove the knurled nut (4) from the adapter (5)

Install the test equipment (3) in the adapter (5)

Install the adapter (5) with the test equipment (3) in the filling neck (6) of the expansion tank (1)

Hook up the clips (2) in the adapter (5) and in the slot of the filling neck (6)

Pre-stress the clip (2) with the knurled nuts (4)

Pressurize the test equipment (3) and check the engine cooling system for leak-tightness


Check the pressure and the test time.
Otherwise, damages may occur in the engine cooling system.

Perform a visual inspection on all conductive components of coolant

In case of pressure drop without noticeable lost of coolant:



Check the cylinder head for cracks.

In case of pressure drop with noticeable lost of coolant:



Check the radiator, the radiator of the heating system, the coolant pump, the coolant hoses, the coolant pipings and their respective junction points, the hoses clamps, the cylinder head gasket, the closing plug or screws of the center hole and, if necessary, eliminate the leakage in the engine cooling system.

Completely depressurize the test pressure from the test equipment (3)

Loosen the knurled nut (4) and remove the clip (2)

Remove the adapter (5) with the test equipment (3) from the expansion tank (1)

Check the coolant level and, if necessary, fill up with coolant



Tighten the closing cap in the expansion tank (1)

Close the engine compartment
