Warning | Risk of injury. Moving parts can pinch, crush or, in extreme cases even sever extremities. | No parts of the body or limbs should be within the operating area of mechanical components when moving components.
Warning | Risk of poisoning caused by swallowing the TIREFIT emulsion. Risk of injury caused by skin contact and eye contact with the TIREFIT emulsion. Risk of fire caused by ignition of the TIREFIT emulsion | Do not swallow or come into contact with the TIREFIT tire sealant, which is an emulsion of rubber and terpene phenolic resin. No open flames or open light sources.

Tires - General information
Detach | |||
1 | Carefully unscrew valve element from valve (1) or valve body (2) and vent tire pressure | On vehicles where the tire was filled with TIREFIT tire sealant, any fluid remains of the TIREFIT tire sealant must be suitably collected when deflating the tire.
2 | Remove all mounted balance weights (3) | Assembly tool
3 | Position bead breaker shovel of tire mounting device opposite the valve (1) or the valve body (2) on the tire bead

Model 251 | |||
4 | Pry inside and outside of tire over the safety bead seats of the disk wheel
| 000 588 00 83 00 Tire mounting device | ||
5 | Clamp disc wheel on the tire mounting device
| 000 588 00 83 00 Tire mounting device | ||
6 | Moisten the flange of the disk wheel and the tire beads with assembly paste
| 000 588 00 83 00 Tire mounting device | ||
Use assembly paste only to remove the tires.
Wide-tire mounting paste
7 | Align the mounting head at a small distance (X, Y) from the disk wheel
| 000 588 00 83 00 Tire mounting device | ||
8 | Position disk wheel so that valve (1) or valve body (2) is located approx. 10 cm in front of mounting head when viewed in direction of turn of tire mounting device
| 000 588 00 83 00 Tire mounting device | ||
9 | Using an assembly lever, lever the tire bead over the assembly lug of the tire mounting device and remove tire

Model 251 | |||
On vehicles equipped with a collapsible spare wheel, the spare wheel with tire is only available as an assembly part. Replace the complete collapsible spare wheel only. On a damaged collapsible spare wheel, remove the tire and dispose of it separately from the disk wheel.
| Check | ||
10 | Check condition of disk wheel
Clean disk wheel if necessary, while doing so the TPM wheel sensor (A69/1, A69/2, A69/3, A69/4) (if present) should not come into contact with compressed air, solvents or cleaners.
11 | Check TPM wheel sensor (A69/1, A69/2, A69/3, A69/4), valve body (2) and seal (6) for damage | Model 251
Do not remove the TPM wheel sensor (A69/1, A69/2, A69/3, A69/4) to check it. Remove any soiling on TPM wheel sensor (A69/1, A69/2, A69/3, A69/4) with a clean, lint-free cloth only.
Do not retighten the bolt (4) (internal Torx bolt) and union nut (7).
If the TPM wheel sensor (A69/1, A69/2, A69/3, A69/4) shows signs of damage.
| |||
Replace TPM wheel sensor (A69/1, A69/2, A69/3, A69/4).
12 | Check the tire | Only on tires that exhibit no visible damage and that are intended for further use.
| |||
Attach | |||
13 | Replace valve (1) and unscrew valve element | Model 251
| 000 588 00 83 00 Tire mounting device | ||
14 | Moisten rim flange and tire beads with assembly paste and align mounting head at a short distance (X, Y) from the disk wheel
| 000 588 00 83 00 Tire mounting device | ||
Only use mounting paste when fitting tires.
Wide-tire mounting paste
15 | Place tire obliquely on disk wheel and mount over the rim flange using the tire mounting device
| 000 588 00 83 00 Tire mounting device | ||
| |||
Note running direction for unidirectional tires.
Put as little stress as possible on bead area.
16 | Align light spots of tires and disk wheel with each other and remove disk wheel with tire from tire mounting device
| 000 588 00 83 00 Tire mounting device | ||
17 | Inflate tire to max. 3 bar | Inflate tire without the valve element.
The tire must slide evenly over the safety bead seat of the disk wheel, otherwise coat the tire bead with mounting paste again. Ensure that the tire is seated evenly along the disk circumference.
Wide-tire mounting paste
18 | Screw valve insert promptly into valve (1) or valve body (2) and tighten | Model 251
19 | Set tire pressure to specified value | Note vehicle tire inflation information (e.g. on fuel filler flap).
