 Danger

Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform.

Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.

Remove

Remove corresponding rear wheel.

Remove wheel hub cover at center of light alloy wheel.

Release collar nut.

Attach rear wheel.

 Two wheel bolts are sufficient.

Operate parking brake.

Unscrew collar nut.

Do not move the vehicle on its wheels once the collar nuts have been unfastened.
Otherwise the wheel bearings may be damaged.

 The vehicle must be in contact with the ground. Dispose of the collar nut.

Release parking brake.

Connect vehicle diagnosis system and move parking brake into assembly position.

Remove rear wheel.

Remove rear axle rpm sensor from wheel carrier (2).

 Do not remove electrical wiring harness and do not disconnect electrical connector.

Remove rear brake cable (4) from brake cable of parking brake.

 Do not remove brake shoes of parking brake. Remove rear brake cable from cable slack adjuster, underbody and semi-trailing arm.

Remove brake hose (3) from holder.

Remove screws (5).

 When doing so, counterhold nuts.

Remove rear axle shaft (1) from wheel hub.

If the rear axle shaft(1) is stuck,



push rear axle shaft (1) out of wheel hub.

Secure wheel carrier (2) outside working area.


Do not stretch brake hose (3).
Malfunction or damage can occur otherwise.

 Helper required.

Pull rear axle shaft (1) out of rear axle differential.


Pull out the rear axle shaft (1) carefully.
Otherwise damage may occur.

 Depending on the version of the rear axle shaft (1), apply an assembly lever at a suitable position (arrows a, b). Helper required.



Check

Check snap ring of rear axle shaft (1) for damage.

Depending on the findings,



replace snap ring.

Check safety clip on rear brake cable (4).

replace safety clip on rear brake cable (4).

Install

Replace radial shaft sealing ring on rear axle differential.

Move rear axle shaft (1) into installation position.

Insert rear axle shaft (1) into rear axle differential.

 Helper required.

 The retaining ring must be felt to engage on the rear axle differential.

Move wheel carrier (2) into installation position.

 Helper required.

Install rear axle shaft (1) in wheel hub of wheel carrier (2).

 Helper required. Screw on new collar nut by several turns.

Screw in screws (5).

 When doing so, counterhold nuts.

 Screw/nut, wheel carrier to semi-trailing arm

Mount brake hose (3) onto holder.

Install rear axle rpm sensor into wheel carrier (2).

Screw in collar nut up to end stop.

 Do not tighten the collar nut yet.

Attach rear wheel.

Lower vehicle.

Deactivate assembly position of parking brake using vehicle diagnosis system.

Disconnect diagnostic system.

Operate parking brake.
