The radio/radio with navigation NG (N87/1) is switched on, authorized and is working properly

No fault with global positioning system (GPS) antenna system

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Navigation mode, general

The navigation module is integrated in the radio/radio with navigation NG. The navigation system includes the following functionalities:

- Position finding

- Route planning, route calculation and destination-oriented navigation

- Visual driving instructions in form of pictograms

- Intersection zoo

- Acoustic driving recommendations

- Display of navigation maps

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The location of the vehicle, as well as the direction and distance to the destination are determined with the aid of the navigation system after entering the following information:

- Country or Federal State

- Town name

- Street

- Intersection or house number (depending on availability of the data)

- Town centers

- ZIP code

- Special destinations

- Destination entry on map

After entering or calling up a destination location, route calculation starts. The route between the current vehicle position and the destination is calculated. The following parameters can be selected in the "Mode" menu:

- "Short route"

- "Dynamic route"

- "Fastest route"

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- "Avoid freeway"

- "Avoid toll roads"

- "Avoid tunnels"

- "Avoid ferries"

- "Avid car trains"

- "Avoid roads requiring toll stickers"

In the "Points of interest" menu the "In destination area ", "Current position", "Other location" and "Search using names" menu items are supported. After entering or calling up a destination location, route calculation starts. The following points of interest categories have been defined (examples):

- "Active sport"

- "Pharmacies"

- "Car rental"

- "Railroad station"

- "Bank"

- "Library"

- "Embassy"

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The system can be activated or deactivated or the destination and street can be entered using the following components:

- Operating panels on radio/radio with navigation NG

- Voice control system (VCS [SBS])

Function sequence for navigation mode

The route for reaching the destination (navigation) is calculated by the navigation system that is integrated in the radio/radio with navigation NG from the data that is entered. Further subfunctions are described in separate documents:

Position finding and destination-oriented navigation, function

Route guidance through voice output, function

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The route is calculated taking the entered parameters into consideration. If observance of the options is not possible, then the options set are ignored for the sections in question and a message is displayed and signaled audibly.

The configured criteria and options can be displayed and changed. After it has been calculated, the route appears on the map on the display of the radio/radio with navigation NG and in the form of pictograms on the display on the instrument cluster (A1). An acoustic announcement is also made, saying "The route is calculated".

If the vehicle is no longer moving on the precalculated route, the route is recalculated. If the recalculated values are plausible for the navigation system, the modified route is displayed.

The signals are output to the instrument cluster as follows:

- Radio/radio with navigation NG

- Interior CAN (CAN B)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

An alternative route is offered under dynamic route guidance if there is a traffic jam or a road block on the calculated route.

If input takes place via the operating panels of the radio/radio with navigation NG, the control signals are processed inside the device.

The voice input takes place via the hands-free system microphone (B25/1). The spoken word is converted into an electrical signal via the hands-free system microphone and relayed to the radio/radio with navigation NG via a direct line.
