MODEL 639.601 /603 /605 /701 /703 /705 /711 /713 /811 /813 /815

Function requirements:

Circuit 15R ON

The "Windshield intermittent wipe" function of the windshield wiper system (WSA) is activated via the wipe switch (S144s4), integrated into the combination switch (S144), in position "1" and deactivated in position "0".

The signals of the wipe switch (S144s4) are read in via the EIS [EZS] control unit (N73) and forwarded to the Controller Area Network bus class B (interior) (CAN-B). The SAM control unit (N10) reads in these signals and the "Speed" signal via CAN-B. The SAM control unit (N10) actuates the windshield wiper motor (M6/1) via the wiper On and Off relay (K40/9k2).

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In vehicles with code (JA5) Light/rain sensor, the signals of the rain/light sensor (B38/2) are read in via CAN-B by the overhead control panel control unit (N70) and incorporated into the control of the windshield WSA.

In vehicles except code (JA5) Light/rain sensor, the interval time is t = 6 s. If the vehicle speed drops below 5 km/h, the activated windshield WSA is automatically switched to the next position down. In position "1", "Windshield intermittent wipe" function, the interval time increases to t = 9 s.

If the vehicle speed increases above 8 km/h again, the activated windshield WSA is switched back into the previous switch position.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For vehicles with code (JA5) Light/rain sensor, the interval time in position "1", "Windshield intermittent wipe" function, is determined continuously variably by the rain/light sensor (B38/2). If the "Windshield intermittent wipe" function is activated, depending on the intensity of the rain, the system is switched to position "2", "Normal wipe" function, or to position "3", "Fast wipe" function.

If the vehicle speed drops below 5 km/h, the system is switched to the next position down. In position "2", "Normal wipe" function, and in position "3", "Fast wipe" function, the interval time is determined continuously variably by the rain/light sensor (B38/2).

If the vehicle speed increases above 8 km/h again, the activated windshield WSA is switched back into the previous switch position.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the event of a malfunction of the rain/light sensor (B38/2), the windshield WSA is controlled as for vehicles except code (JA5) Light/rain sensor.

For vehicles with code (JA5) Light/rain sensor, with "circuit 15R ON" and by turning the wipe switch (S144s4) to position "1", "Windshield intermittent wipe" function, an initialization wipe is executed, i.e. a single wipe cycle is performed, which clears the area of the rain/light sensor (B38/2) of raindrops, dirt and salt. The initialization wipe is necessary to ensure correct operation of the rain/light sensor (B38/2).

If the status "circuit 15R ON" is activated and the wipe switch (S144s4) is in position "1", "Windshield intermittent wipe" function, no initialization wipe is carried out. The driver must operate the wipe switch (S144s4) again.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With "circuit 15R OFF" the front wipers remain in the current position. If the status "circuit 15R ON" is reactivated, then the front wipers are moved back into the park position (final wipe).

The "Windshield wash" function has priority over the activated "Windshield wipe" function, which is continued after ending the "Windshield wash" function. With the "Windshield intermittent wipe" function, the interval window is reset to "0".

For vehicles with code (JA5) Light/rain sensor, startup of the front wipers is suppressed to protect the windshield WSA, if the status "circuit 15R ON" prevails, v = 0 km/h and the measured outside temperature is < +4 °C.

The startup suppression is deactivated when v > 0 km/h or the combination switch (S144) is operated. The deactivation of the startup suppression remains active until the next change in status of "circuit 15R OFF".

Lockup detection function

A lockup of the windshield wiper motor (M6/1) is recognized by the SAM control unit (N10) via circuit 31B. A lockup of the windshield wiper motor (M6/1) is recognized in the following conditions:

The wipers do not leave the park position after t = 4 s.

The wipers do not reach the park position after t = 12 s.

After a lockup is detected, the windshield wiper motor (M6/1) is deactivated. If the combination switch (S144) is pressed again or if the status "circuit 15R ON" with combination switch (S144) in position "1", "Windshield intermittent wipe" function, is activated, then another attempt to switch on the windshield wiper motor (M6/1) is made.
