Function

Monitoring the rain/light sensor (B38/2) and the combination switch (S4) makes it possible for the front overhead control panel control unit (N70) to trigger the automatic driving light actuation. The rain/light sensor (B38/2) monitors the intensity of the daylight and the light conditions in the direction of travel.

Function while driving, using driving in a tunnel as an example

The rain/light sensor (B38/2) informs the front overhead control panel control unit (N70) that the light conditions have changed. The front overhead control panel control unit (N70) transmits the "Darkness detected" signal to the driver-side SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) via CAN-B (CAN-B).

The driver-side SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) processes the "Darkness detected" signal and forwards the "Driving lamps On" request signal via CAN-B (CAN-B) to the passenger-side SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/9), the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module 1 (N10/3), and the rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module 2 (N10/8).

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The driver-side SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1) actuates the left standing and parking lamp (E1e3) as well as the left low beam (E1e2) or the left high beam in the left front lamp unit via the xenon headlamp supply module (E1n4) and the xenon headlamp ignition module (E1n2).

The passenger-side SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/9) actuates the right standing and parking lamp (E2e3), as well as the right low beam (E2e2) or the right high beam in the right front lamp unit via the xenon headlamp supply module (E2n4) and the xenon headlamp ignition module (E2n2).

The rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module 1 (N10/3) actuates the left license plate lamp (E19/1) and the right license plate lamp (E19/1).

The rear SAM control unit with fuse and relay module 2 (N10/8) actuates the left taillamp and parking lamp (E3e2) and the right taillamp and parking lamp (E4e2).

When adequate light conditions are recognized again, the driving and standing lamps are switched off automatically.

The actuation of the low beam or high beam depends on the position of the combination switch (S4).

Function during wiper operation

When the windshield wipers are activated for at least 20 s with a cycle time < 6 s, the driving lamps are switched on as in the previous example. If the cycle time is absent for 20 s, the driving lamps are switched off. With the washing and touch-wiping functions, the driving lamps are not switched on automatically.

When switching off circuit 15R or when the combination switch (S4) is turned into position "0", the driving lamps are switched off immediately.
