MODEL 246, 176

Function requirements, general

Circuit 15C OFF

Operating central locking with transmitter key, general

The central locking can operated with the transmitter key (A8/1).

The remote control key can be operated with the following partial functions:

Function sequence for presetting global or selective unlocking

Function sequence for locking or unlocking

Function sequence for acoustic locking feedback

Function sequence for optical locking feedback

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Function sequence for presetting global or selective unlocking

If the unlock and lock buttons on the transmitter key are pressed simultaneously for t = 5 seconds, a change between the "global" and "selective" settings takes place.
The indicator lamp on the transmitter key comes on for confirmation.

Global unlocking:
The entire vehicle is unlocked by pressing the "Unlock" button on the transmitter key.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Selective unlocking:
Only the driver door and the fuel filler flap request are unlocked when the "Unlock" button on the transmitter key is pressed the first time.
The vehicle is unlocked completely when actuated again.

Function sequence for locking or unlocking

When the unlock button or lock button the transmitter key is actuated, it transmits a radio signal to via the rear window antennas and FM , AM and CL [ZV] antenna amplifier (A2/18) to the electronic ignition lock control unit (N73).

Parallel to the radio signal, the transmitter key transmits infrared signals via the driver door infrared remote control receiver (A26/1) (precise aiming required) and a direct line to the left front door control unit (N69/1). The left door control unit transmits this to the electronic ignition lock control unit via the interior CAN (CAN B).

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The infrared and radio signals include the same information (redundant); the first signal received is accepted. This function serves for operating safety in the event that the radio signal is blocked by interference such as electromagnetic fields.

In both cases the electronic ignition lock control unit checks the access authorization of the transmitter key.

If the access authorization is valid, the electronic ignition switch control unit transmits the request "Lock" or "Unlock" via the interior CAN to the following control units:

- SAM control unit (N10)

- Left front door control unit

- Right front door control unit (/)N69/2

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Then they lock or unlock the corresponding door via the:

- Left front door central locking motor (A85m1) in left front door lock (A85)

- Right front door central locking motor (A85/1m1) in right front door lock (A85/1)

- Left rear door central locking motor (A85/3m1) in left rear door lock (A85/3)

- Right rear door central locking motor (A85/4m1) in right rear door lock(A85/4)

On vehicles with code (885) Extended theft protection, the following components are actuated additionally:

- Left front door additional door lock actuator motor (A85m4)

- Right front door additional door lock actuator motor (A85/1m4)

- Left rear door additional door lock actuator motor(A85/3m4)

- Right rear door additional door lock actuator motor (A85/4m4)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Open the liftgate via the liftgate external operation switch (S88/8) is enabled or disabled by the rear control unit.

The SAM control unit disables the opening request from the tank cap central locking actuator (M14/10) or enables it. The status of the liftgate rotary tumbler switch is directly read in by the SAM control unit.

If the tank cap is pressed (opening request), a signal is transmitted to the SAM control unit via the tank cap central locking actuator. The SAM control unit checks whether the opening request is permissible. If so, the SAM control unit actuates the electric motor in the tank cap central locking actuator and the locking hooks are enabled.

Vehicles with code (551) Anti-theft alarm system (ATA [EDW]):

If the driver door in the locked vehicle is opened mechanically with the emergency key, the anti-theft alarm system (ATA) triggers an alarm.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Function sequence for acoustic locking feedback

The acoustic locking feedback function is selected via the control level in the instrument cluster (A1).

The instrument cluster transmits the corresponding status via interior CAN to the SAM control unit.

When the acoustic locking feedback function is activated, the SAM control unit momentarily actuates the left horn (H2) and the right horn (H2/1) via the horn relays (F58kJ) after successful locking and unlocking. For this purpose the electronic ignition lock control unit transmits the request "Lock" or "Unlock" to the SAM control unit via the interior CAN.

Number of acoustic signals:

- Locking: three times

- Unlocking: once

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If a door or the liftgate is still open when locking, there is no acoustic feedback.

The door status (open or closed) is sensed by the following components:

- Left front door rotary tumbler switch (A85s1), left front door

- Right front door rotary tumbler switch (A85/1s1), right front door

- Left rear door rotary tumbler switch (A85/3s1), left rear door

- Right rear door rotary tumbler switch (A85/4s1), right rear door

- Liftgate rotary tumbler switch (M14/7s1)

The front door control units and SAM control unit transmit the status of the corresponding front door to the electronic ignition lock control unit via the interior CAN.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Function sequence for optical locking feedback

After the CL is locked or unlocked successfully, a visual feedback is output via the turn signals.

The electronic ignition lock transmits the request "Lock" or "Unlock" to the SAM control unit via the interior CAN. The SAM control unit then actuates the hazard warning flashing function by means of outputting the flasher frequency over the interior CAN. All turn signals are actuated synchronously on the vehicle.

One flashing cycle is output when unlocking.

Three flashing cycles are output when locking

If a door or the liftgate is still open when locking, there is no visual feedback.

The front door control units transmit the status of the corresponding front door to the electronic ignition lock control unit via the interior CAN. The SAM control unit transmits the status of the corresponding rear door to the electronic ignition lock control nit via the interior CAN.

Detailed information on performing the hazard warning flasher function is included in the function description "Exterior lights, function" in the partial function "Turn signal light actuation, function".
