Location
The fuel level sensor is integrated into the fuel pump with fill level sensor.
Body
The fuel level sensor consists of:
– lever
– float
- double potentiometer (two sliding contacts)
Both sliding contacts of the double potentiometer are connected in parallel.
Function
The float changes the position of the lever (with the double potentiometer) in line with the fuel level. This causes a change in the electrical resistance of the double potentiometer, thus also changing the output voltage, which can then be used to measure the fuel level. The voltage signal from the fuel level sensor is transmitted to the SAM control unit (N10) which appropriately processes the voltage signal and via the interior CAN (CAN B), over the electronic ignition lock control unit (EIS) (N73) and via the engine CAN (CAN C) to the IC (A1) and to the CDI control unit (N3/30) (engine 642.8) or CDI control unit (N3/20) (engine 642.9).
