S110/1 Steering wheel gear shifter MINUS
Location
Located on the rear side of the multifunction steering wheel at the left is the MINUS steering wheel gear shifter and at the right the PLUS steering wheel gear shifter (S111/1).
Task
- Selection of shifting range in "C" or "S" transmission mode
- Shifting into a gear from which the vehicle can be favorably accelerated or decelerated
- Direct shifting of all forward gears in manual transmission mode "M" (except model (230.477 with code (494) USA version)
Function
The steering wheel gear shifters MINUS and PLUS are read in by the steering column tube module (N80) via the steering LIN (LIN E1). The steering column tube module places the "Downshift" or "Upshift" signals on the engine compartment CAN (CAN-C). The ETC [EGS] control unit (N15/3) receives the signal via the ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10) and triggers the gear change.
Shifts, which could result in impermissibly high or low engine speeds, are not performed.
