Cylinder head as-built configuration
As a result of the small cylinder angle of only 15° the V6 is able to make do with a common cylinder head for both banks of cylinders, in contrast to a conventional V engine.
The inlet and outlet passages are arranged in the cross-flow principle. The cylinder head features one inlet and one exhaust valve for each cylinder. The valves are operated by a camshaft for each bank of cylinders and hydro-tappets.
The camshafts are driven by a timing chain positioned at the flywheel side.
