Disassemble

1

Removing the complete steering box

Remove/install steering gear

Secure the steering box in a vise and remove the protecting sleeves (20), (21) and the snap ring (22)

Unscrew the bolts (3) and remove the cover (5) with the thrust washer (9) and the needle bearing (10)

 The steering box must be with the cover (5) facing up.

Push the complete piston (15) from the bottom up and remove it with the axial bearing (16), and the thrust washer (17) and the seal (18)

Remove the inside and outside seals from the complete piston (15)

Remove the sleeves (26), (35) and the snap rings (27) and the bearings

7

Remove the bearings (30), the thrust washers (31) and the steering sector (33)

8

Remove the return and pressure limiting valves (23), (35)

 Information not valid for model ZF 8098 steering box.



Check

9

Check all components for wear or damage

 Replace all seals and rings. Lubricate the components with hydraulic oil.



Assemble

Determine the thrust washer (9) for assembly of the steering end-less shaft
