Place the gearbox (11) in a suitable support

Remove the heat exchanger connections (1) on the retarder (10)

Remove the gearbox revs sensor (12B07)

Remove the bolts (3, 4)

 Secure and suspend the retarder beforehand to avoid it falling to the floor.

 Due to the different lengths of the bolts (3, 4), mark their position to avoid assembling them in the wrong position.

Remove the retarder (10)

 The retarder (10) has to be transported and stored as determined by the manufacturer. The input shaft must not prop the retarder nor the gearbox.The same is to be protected against damages.

 Do not place any leverage tool between the mating surfaces of the retarder (10) and the gearbox case (11).

Remove the sealing rings (5) from the gearbox (11)

Remove the outside race of the bearing (6) from the gearbox (11)



Pull the compensating washer (7)

Remove the drive gear (13)

 Mark the assembly position.



Installing

Install the drive gear (13)

 Observe the identification to determine the correct assembly position.

Determine the thickness of the compensating washer (7)

Device for measuring the retarder: Request the measuring device through a Voith representative. Identification number H67.3224xx

Install the compensating washer (7) in the gearbox case (11)

Install the outside race (6) in the gearbox center case (11)

Use an appropriate mandrel.

If the taper roller bearing (12) is replaced, the outside race of the bearing (6) is also to be replaced.

Clean the sealing surface of the retarder (8)

 The sealing surface must be clean, dry and free of grease.

Apply sealing compound on the sealing surface (9) of the gearbox case

 The sealing surface must have been cleaned, dried and be free of grease beforehand.

Turn the gearbox to the vertical position so the sealing surface is facing up.

Install the sealing rings (5) in the gearbox case (11)

 Apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly on the sealing rings (5) before installing them.

Install the retarder (10) on the gearbox case (11)

 To ensure a perfect seating between the sealing surfaces, install two threaded pins in the tapped holes indicated by arrows. Remove the threaded pins after fastening the retarder.



Tighten the bolts (3, 4)

Fill the retarder with oil



Carry out the retarder air bleeding (lubricant deaeration)

 During the test drive at 50 km/h speed:



- Actuate the retarder, in the first lever position, for 5 seconds and deactivate next;

- Repeat this operation 5 times.
