1 Fit magnetic disk (052c) 126 589 00 21 00, part 16, onto end face of drive pinion (47) to measure adjustment dimension "A".
P35.31-0267-01
2 Insert dial gauge (052a) with measuring pin in the measuring device (052).
3 Press the adjusting piece (052b) 126 589 00 21 00 part 10 against the measuring device and adjust the dial gauge (052a) to "0" under 2 mm preload. Tighten the clamp screw and when doing so check the "0" position of the dial gauge (052a), adjust if necessary.
The measuring pin for the dial gauge (052a) is screwed into the adjusting piece (052b).
P35.31-0412-01
4 Insert the measuring device (052) from the left bore into the rear axle housing.
When inserting measuring device (052) into rear axle housing, ensure that measuring pin of dial indicator is not damaged in bore.
P35.31-0419-01
5 Read off adjustment dimension "A". The adjustment dimension must be within the tolerance.
P35.31-0306-01
The adjustment dimension "A" is the design basic adjustment of the drive pinion, whereby the basic deviation "a" must be within the permissible tolerance in the positive (+) or negative (-) direction. The basic deviation "a" is the dimension which is indicated on the end face of the drive pinion.
If the adjustment dimension is outside the tolerance, the shim installed should be reground or a new shim of appropriate thickness should be installed. However, it is absolutely essential to use a new spacer sleeve for the tapered roller bearings.
A Basic setting (design)
B Addendum of bevel gear plus height of tapered roller bearing
M Center of ring gear
S Adjustment shim thickness
a Deviation in basic setting
6 Remove measuring device and magnetic plate from rear axle housing.
