Intermediate rings (x 2)
P35.31-0279-01
1 Mount magnetic disk (052c), part 05 from intermediate rings 2 ea., onto end face of drive pinion (47) for measurement of basic setting.
P35.31-0266-01
2 Insert left measuring device ring (052e), part 01 from measuring device, from outside inwards and exactly up to the end stop in the rear axle housing.
3 Insert right measuring device ring (052d), part 02 from measuring device, from inside outwards and exactly up to the end stop in the rear axle housing.
P35.31-0267-01
4 Insert dial gauge (052a) with measuring pin in the measuring device (052).
5 Press adjusting piece (052b), part 10 from against measuring device (052) and adjust the dial gauge (052a) to "0" under 2 mm preload. Tighten clamp screw, checking the "0" position of the dial gage (052a), realign if necessary.
The measuring pin for the dial gauge (052a) is screwed into the adjusting piece (052b).
P35.31-0268-01
When inserting the measuring device (052) into the rear axle housing make sure that the measuring pin of the dial indicator (052a) is not damaged when in the bore.
P35.31-0280-01
6 Insert the measuring device (052) from the left bore into the rear axle housing.
7 Read off adjustment dimension (A).
The adjustment dimension (A) must be within the tolerance.
P35.31-0306-01
8 Remove measuring device (052) and magnetic disk (052c) from rear axle housing.
a Deviation in basic setting
A Adjustment dimension
B Addendum of bevel gear plus height of tapered roller bearing
M Center of ring gear
S Adjustment shim thickness
The adjustment dimension (A) is the design basic setting of the drive pinion, the deviation in basic setting (a) having to be within the permissible tolerance in the positive or negative direction. The deviation in basic setting (a) is the dimension which is to be read off on the end face of the drive pinion.
If the adjustment dimension is outside the tolerance, the installed shim should be reground or a new shim of the appropriate thickness should be installed and a new spacer sleeve should be used for the tapered roller bearings in order to guaranteed satisfactory operation.
