Danger! | Risk of explosion from welding or soldering work on closed air conditioning system. Risk of poisoning from inhaling overheated refrigerant vapors. Risk of injury to skin and eyes caused by contact with liquid refrigerant. | Never perform welding work on or near a closed air conditioning system. No smoking or open flames. Wear safety glasses and protective gloves. Work only in well ventilated areas. Carry out repair work on the air conditioning system circuit only after the system has been discharged.
| Conduct if air conditioning system is damaged or leaking | ||
| Protect air conditioning circuit and components from moisture when carrying out repair work | ||
| Notes on handling refrigerant R134a | ||
1 | Discharge air conditioning system | Installation: Evacuate air conditioning and then fill.
2 | Remove front CBS | ||
3 | Drain coolant | Engine 122.9, 134.9, 135.9
Engine 639.9 | |||
4 | Remove front module and support radiator unit (1) | Relieve coolant hoses (5, 6) and refrigerant lines (2, 7) using suitable underlays. Secure the radiator unit (1) against falling down.
5 | Unscrew nut (3) and detach refrigerant line (2) from capacitor of radiator unit (1) | Close opening at the refrigerant line (2) and at capacitor of radiator unit (1).
Installation: Replace the sealing ring at the refrigerant line (2) and coat with compressor fluid when inserting.
| |||
6 | Unscrew screw (8) and detach refrigerant line (7) from capacitor of radiator unit (1) | Close opening at the refrigerant line (7) and at capacitor of radiator unit (1).
Installation: Replace the sealing ring at the refrigerant line (7) and coat with compressor fluid when inserting.
| |||
7.1 | Loosen the alternator wiring harness (9) from the retainers (10) at the radiator unit (1) | Engine 639.9:
8 | Unclip retaining clip (4) of fan wiring harness
9 | Separate coolant fan motor connector (M4/2x1)
10 | Disconnect coolant hoses (5, 6) at the radiator unit (1) | Collect escaping coolant in a suitable container.
11 | Install in the reverse order
Danger! | Risk of accident caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the running engine | Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
12 | Perform an engine test run, check for leaks in the cooling system around the radiator unit (1) and perform a function check of the engine coolant fan motor |
