Drain/fill in coolant

 Danger!

Risk of injury to skin and eyes caused by scalding from contact with hot coolant spray.
Risk of poisoning caused by swallowing coolant.

Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90°C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.

Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.

Notes on coolant

Turn the cooling system cap (1) on the radiator (2) half a revolution in counterclockwise direction, release pressure relief, then unscrew cooling system cap (1).

Remove lower engine compartment paneling

Unscrew radiator drain plug (3) on radiator (2) and drain coolant

 Catch coolant in a suitable vessel.

Unscrew engine drain plug (5) on the crankcase and drain coolant

 Catch coolant in a suitable vessel.

Filling

5.1

Tighten engine drain plug (5) with new gasket on crankcase

On engines 134.9 and 135.9



Coat engine drain plug (5) with sealing compound and screw onto crankcase

On engine 122.9



Tighten radiator drain plug (3) on radiator (2)

Install lower engine compartment paneling.

Connect filling device (6) with adapter (7) to the radiator (2), evacuate and then fill the cooling system

 Observe instruction manual from filling device (6) manufacturer.



Screw cooling system cap (1) onto the radiator (2)



Checking

 Danger!

Risk of accident caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running

Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Carry out engine test run

Check coolant level in radiator (2) and in the expansion reservoir (4) and correct if necessary



Engine cooling system - check fluid level, adjust to correct level. Inspect anticorrosion/antifreeze protection, adjust to correct concentration
