Danger! | Risk of injury to skin and eyes resulting from burns caused by overheated vapor or coolant. Risk of poisoning by coolant ingestion | Open the cooling system only at temperatures below 90 °C. Cautiously open the filler cap to release excess pressure. Coolant must not be stored in beverage or drinking water containers. Wear gloves, adequate clothing and safety goggles.
1 | Drain cooling system. | Collect the liquid, replace it if necessary.
| Instructions on engine coolant. | ||
| Change the coolant | ||
Danger! | Risk of injury by seizing or compression while tilting the cab | Do not enter and do not allow others to enter the area below the cab while it is tilting in either direction. Always tilt the cab to its final position and lock the cab by means of the safety device.
2 | Tilting the cab. | ||
3 | Remove nut (6) from steel cable. | Installation: Installation: Screw in nut (6) to extend the steel cable without subjecting it to tension.
4 | Remove hoses (7/8) from air after-cooler. | Installation: Check condition of hoses (7/8), replace as necessary. Do not invert hoses. The red hose (7) is to be mounted between turbocharger and after-cooler..
| Instructions for mounting air after-cooler hoses | ||
| |||
5 | Disconnect hoses (3/4/5) from radiator. | Check hoses and clamps, replace as necessary.
6 | Remove cooling system hose positioning bracket (2) from after-cooler. | Move bracket (2) with hoses to a location where it does not interfere with radiator removal.
7.1 | Remove screws fastening air conditioning radiator to air after-cooler. | Vehicles with air conditioning. Remove cautiously from air after-cooler. Do not disconnect air conditioning tubings.
8 | Remove screws (9) fastening radiator (1) to mountings (11). | In Vehicles 688.232/254/255, screws (9) on the left also fasten steering fluid reservoir bracket (10). Remove screws (9) while carefully holding bracket/reservoir (10) in order not to damage the reservoir nor the tubings. Installation: Install bracket (10) with reservoir on the radiator support and mount screws (9).
| |||
9 | Remove radiator with after-cooler (1). | Hold radiator (1), move it slightly forward and withdraw it upwards. Do not damage radiator, after-cooler nor any cooling system hoses. Installation: Place radiator (1) on mountings (11), maintaining fan blades centered within the air deflector with uniform clearance all round.
10 | Loosen nuts (12) and remove mountings (11). | Check condition of mountings (11), replace as necessary.
| |||
11 | Check radiator condition. | Repair or replace radiator in case of damage
Remove air deflector from radiator, loosen screws (13) and detach radiator from air after-cooler.
| |||
| |||
12 | Install in reverse order.
13 | Check engine coolant level. | Replenish as necessary.
| Cooling system: Check and restore the level and concentration of the coolant | ||
14 | Check leak tightness of cooling system. |
