Danger! | Risk of personal damages and material loss when starting the engine with the gearbox engaged in a gear. Risk of personal injuries when carrying out jobs with engine hot and running | Make sure the gearbox is in neutral. Wear suitable clothing and pay attention to hot and moving engine parts.
1 | Detach the battery negative lead or switch-off the master switch | Unscrew the negative lead bolt at the side rail, avoid removal at battery post terminals.
2 | Open the front cover | Operate the lever under the dashboard , at left side and lift the cover.
3 | Remove the front grill (5). | Detach the cable from the front cover latch.
Danger! | Risk of injuries to the skin and eyes, due to burns caused by vapor or overheated coolant. Risk of poisoning due to coolant ingestion | Open the coolant system only when its temperature is below 90 °C. Open slowly the cover and let the excess pressure go out. Coolant should not be kept in beverage bottles. Use gloves, appropriate clothes and protective glasses.
4 | Drain the coolant at the radiator | Catch the coolant in a suitable container and dispose it in an environmentally safe way.
Installing:Fill the system with fresh coolant with specified quantity and prepared according to prescribed proportions.
| |||
| Indications on self-locking bolts and nuts | All models | |
5 | Remove the charge-air cooler | Engines 374.953/980/981/984/988/989/991/993/994 .
6 | Loosen the clamps and remove the intake pipe (6) from the air filter to the turbocharger
7 | Detach the clamps and hoses (7) between the coolant reservoir (8) and the radiator (1)
8 | Detach the clamps and the hoses between the radiator (1) and the engine | In the upper part loosen and remove the hose (3) located at left side.
In the lower part the hose is located at the right side and is connected with the hose (3.1).
9 | Unscrew and remove the bolts and washers from the charge-air cooler pipe upper support | Engines 374.953/980/981/984/988/989/991/993/994 .
10 | Loosen and remove the fastening latches (12) of the fan deflector (2) on the radiator and move it away to the engine side | Installing: Fit the deflector in the bottom part and next install new fastening latches.
11 | Unscrew and remove the nuts (4) fastening the radiator to the mounts (4.1) on both sides | Installing: Check the mounts and if necessary: replace them.
| |||
12 | Remove the radiator (1) | Place the radiator (1) in an adequate place to prevent its damage.
Installing: Check the radiator (1) for damages and tightness and if necessary: Clean or replace.
Installing: The radiator support has oblong holes permitting moving the radiator horizontally on the mounts (4.1).
Check the centering of the deflector (2) in relation to the fan: Correct the centering if necessary before fastening the nuts (4) on the mounts (4.1).
| Check | ||
13 | Check the condition of all hoses and clamps of the cooling system | Replace the damaged hoses and clamps.
14 | Install in reverse order | After the engine reaches the normal service temperature, complete the coolant level and check the tightness of the system. |
