Danger! | Risk of injury to skin and eyes from scalding from hot coolant which splashes out. Risk of poisoning from swallowing coolant. | Do not open the cooling system unless the coolant temperature is below 90 °C. Open cap slowly and allow the pressure to release. Do not pour coolant into containers for drinks. Wear protective gloves, protective clothes, and eye protection.
1 | Remove cooling system cap (1) | In case of corrosion, replace cap (1)
2 | Set heating switches to maximum heating capacity
| Checking | ||
3 | Check coolant level, adjust to correct level if necessary
4 | Fit test cap onto expansion tank (2) | Test cap
5 | Connect tester to test cap | Tester
6 | Pressurize cooling system | If new cylinder head gasket: test cooling system for leaks after engine has reached operating temperature. Pressure about 1.4 bar
7 | Inspect all pipes and hoses of cooling and heating system, radiator, coolant pump, coolant pump housing, cap of coolant thermostat, oil-water heat exchanger and cylinder head gasket for loss of coolant. Inspect condition and fitting of hose clips. | If necessary after testing: re-tighten or replace hose clips
