Risk of injuries by pinching or suffer burns when working while the engine started or when the vehicle is moving | Assure vehicle against unintentional move. Use tight fitting and closed work clothes. Do not touch heated or running parts. | |
| The intake manifolds, on their attachment to the engine cylinder head, are similar in all models of the series, changing only the air intake configuration. | ||
1 | Turn off the main switch or disconnect the battery ground lead. | Unscrew the negative lead bolt at the side rail, avoid removal at battery post terminals. | |
2.1 | Tilt the engine hood and lock it with the safety rod. | Truck with 384.0, 386.0, 694.0, 695.0 cab | |
2.2 | Remove the inside cab engine hood, releasing the side latches | Truck with 384.0, 688.1, 694.0, 695.0 cab | |
Installing: Check the rubber gasket and if necessary, replace it. | |||
2.3 | Open cab front lid | Vehicles with cab 688.1, actuate the locking lever under the dashboard, at left side and lift the lid. | |
2.4 | Tilt the cab to 55° | Vehicles with 682, 693 cab. | |
3 | Remove the turbocharger's pipe | Only vehicles fitted with charge-air cooler. | |
Installing: Check the clamps, the hose and the sealing ring, if necessary, replace them. | |||
4 | Remove the turbocharger (5). | Only vehicles fitted with turbocharger. | |
5 | Remove the exhaust manifold (2) | ||
6 | Loosen and remove the LDA bolt (4) | Installing: Apply new sealing rings and check the connections for tightness after assembly. | |
7 | Unscrew the bolts (3) attaching the intake manifold (1) and remove it | Installing: Apply new sealing gaskets (6) , observe that they are installed with the word “TOP” up and facing the cylinder head. | |
Tighten the bolts (3) to the specified torque. | |||
