When carrying out work on the timing case chamber, safeguard this with a clean cloth to prevent small items dropping down.
Items, which have fallen into the timing chain chamber, must be removed, otherwise this can lead to damage at the engine control.
1 Connect new timing chain (2) and old timing chain (1) with the assembly link (3.1), the assembly outer plate (3.2) and the assembly locking element (3.3).
Holes (arrow) in the rollers of the new timing chain (2) must point to the outside after assembly.

2 Draw in new timing chain (2).
Slowly rotate crankshaft in direction of rotation of engine until the ends of the new timing chain (2) can be connected.
While drawing in the new timing chain (2) keep meshed with as many teeth of the camshaft sprocket (5) as possible. Pull out the old timing chain (1) evenly according to the drawing in of the new timing chain (2) (arrows).
The old timing chain (1) or the new timing chain (2) is always kept meshed with the camshaft sprocket (5) during the drawing-in process by the
Retaining device (4) and the slide rail in the cylinder head.

3 Remove assembly locking element (3.3), assembly outer plate (3.2) and assembly link (3.1) and place old timing chain (1) to the side.
The assembly locking element (3.3), assembly outer plate (3.2) and assembly link (3.1) are only intended as an assembly aid and are not suitable for engine operation.
Absolutely remove assembly locking element (3.3), assembly outer plate (3.2) and assembly link (3.1), otherwise this could result in engine damage.
