Danger ! | Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. | Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.
| Remove/install | ||
1 | Bring engine up to operating temperature (approx. 80°C) | Only check compression pressure when engine is at operating temperature.
2 | Remove spark plugs | ||
| Replace spark plugs | ||
3 | Crank engine over the ignition/starter switch | Crank engine several times to eliminate combustion residues in the cylinder.
| Check | ||
4 | Insert compression recorder into spark plug bore | Compression tester
5 | Open throttle valve | To do this fully depress accelerator pedal.
6 | Crank engine over the ignition/starter switch | Use aid of helper.
7 | Carry out test procedure at remaining cylinders in the same way | The determined values must only in average deviate by a maximum of 15% between the lowest and the greatest value.
If the permissible difference between the individual cylinders is exceeded, the cylinder leakage must be checked, see:
