Danger! | Risk of injury to skin and eyes due to being scalded by hot coolant. Danger of poisoning due to swallowing coolant. | Open engine cooling system only at coolant temperatures below 90 °C. Unscrew the cap slowly and release excess pressure. Do not pour coolant into drinking containers. Wear protective gloves, clothing and goggles.
| Notes on coolant | All engines | |
| Before replacing coolant, check cooling and heating system for leaks and condition. | Coolant replacement must be endorsed in the maintenance booklet. | |
1 | Remove cap. | Turn cap (arrow) of coolant expansion system to the 1st notch, release excess pressure. Continue turning to the 2nd notch, remove cap and check coolant level.
2 | Open temperature control valve.
3 | Open drain plug or drain valves. | Drain holes must be free from deposits. Installation: check seals of drain plug, replace if necessary Fill coolant using suitable container. Connect drain hose to drain valves.
4 | Install in reverse sequence
5 | Replenish coolant | Fill coolant up to the mark in the filler neck or to the maximum mark on the coolant expansion reservoir . Close the cooling system
Danger! | Risk of accident resulting from vehicle starting to move by itself when engine running. Risk of injury due to being trapped and burnt when intervening during the starting operation or when the engine is running | Secure vehicle against starting to move unintentionally. Wear close-fitting, tight clothing. Do not touch hot or rotating parts
6 | Start engine and run for approx. 1 minute at varying speeds.
7 | Switch off engine and top up with coolant to the specified coolant level.
| Checking | ||
8 | Check screw plugs and drain valves for leaks. |
