| Checking | ||
1 | Check radiator (1) for external soiling | Fins and intermediate spaces must not be blocked with dirt.
2.1 | Clean the radiator (1) with compressed air or water | Only for the case of a dirty radiator (1). The jet of hot water must be aimed at a right angle at the radiator (1) otherwise the cooling fins can be damaged.
First clean the radiator (1) from the fan side. Use a high pressure hot water cleaner to remove strong dirt.
3 | Wash out remaining dirt from the intake fittings
4 | Check coolant level and correct it
5 | Open heating system shut-off and control valves | Set heater to max. heat.
6 | Fit tester (3) and connect up compressed-air line with a tire inflation connection (4) to the valve (2)
7 | Apply test pressure to the engine cooling system | Test pressure equals the opening pressure of the cooling system which is recognizable from the code number of the cap or pressure relief valve. Code number 40 represent a 0.4 bar overpressure. A safety valve with an opening pressure of 1.2 bar is integrated in the tester.
| |||
8 | Check radiator (1), water pump, oil cooler, core hole cover and heating system as well as the heat exchanger for the Voith retarder or automatic transmission for leaks | If there are leaks: Replace faulty parts - as a separate repair order.
9 | Inspect all lines and hoses of the cooling and heating system for leaks, undamaged condition as well as routing and attachment free of chafing points | If there are leaks: Replace defective parts or correct routing - as a separate repair order.
10 | Release pressure in the cooling system at valve (2) of the tester (3), remove tester (3) and attach cap
11 | Close heating system shut-off and control valves |
