	Automatic transmission (AGN) diagnosis, previous knowledge		AD27.19-W-2001B
	Battery voltage 22-29 V
	Indicator lamp for auxiliary appliances must be off.
	The electrical system is checked in accordance with the vehicle operating manual and is in order.
	Compressed-air at least 5.5 bar.
	Carry out tests using the wiring diagrams in the Workshop Manual "Electrical system, volume 5".
	If actual values deviate from specified values, the measures under "Notes, cause/Remedy" are to be carried out.

4 Kickdown shifting	– Shift gear selector switch into switch position "D". – Accelerate vehicle at full throttle and note speeds at the shift points. – Drive vehicle at the noted speeds in sequence and depress the accelerator pedal beyond the full throttle point (kickdown).	The transmission shifts down one gear in each case. The transmission does not shift down.	Test step 5 AD27.19-W-5003A "Kickdown inoperative".
5 Throttle lock-out	– Start engine and open throttle. – Shift gear selector switch from shift position "N" into a drive stage. – Shift gear selector switch into switch position "N". – Open throttle and engage power take-off.	The vehicle goes into the closed throttle position for approx. 1 second. The vehicle does not go into the closed throttle position for approx. 1 second. 6 Retarder release	– Carry out test drive, vehicle speed > 3 km/h, accelerator pedal in closed throttle position.	 On vehicles with retarder actuation via brake pedal, retarder stage 1 is engaged when the service brake valve is operated. When ABS controls, the retarder is disengaged.
	Vehicles with engine brake: – Move retarder switch into stage 2. Vehicles without engine brake: – Move retarder switch into stage 1.	Retarder stage 1 in operation. Retarder stage 1 inoperative. 7 Retarder reduction	– Perform test drive, transmission in 3rd gear. – Move retarder switch to stage 3.	 At low speeds, the EST18 control unit shifts the retarder down one stage via the relay K5-A31, in order to prevent the engine stalling. With the down shift from 3rd to 2nd gear, the EST18 control unit shifts the retarder down one stage via the relay K5-A31. The retarder is shifted down one stage by the relay K6-A31 at a transmission oil temperature of 145 °C without any influence from the control unit.

9 Engine brake  Engine brake is special equipment.	– Perform test drive, vehicle speed > 3 km/h, accelerator pedal in idle position. – Move retarder switch into stage 1 or operate engine brake switch.
