| Important information and preliminary measures | The recommended dimensions must always be observed, with regard to personal safety as well as those of environment protection to avoid accidents. | |
We suggest to read this document before removing the shock absorbers, as there are various procedures that can be adopted or not, depending on the available equipment.
Considering that the shock absorbers have an essential importance as to the vehicle behavior, the replacement and maintenance must be made always per axle, at both right and left sides.
The original shock absorbers are supplied with bushings (9) and (13) assembled, forming a single component.
1 | Put the vehicle on a flat and leveled floor that permits to work with safety. Choke the rear wheels to avoid that it accidentally moves. | This is to be done if there is not an appropriate pit or lifter.
2 | Turn the general switch off. | As this refers to electronic vehicles, always observe the recommendations for this type of vehicles.
3 | With the vehicle on the floor, unfasten slightly the front axle wheels, if an appropriate lifter cannot be used. The removal of the front wheels will be carried out later, when the vehicle has been already lifted.
Danger! | Risk of severe accidents | Take the due care when lifting the vehicle.
Do not lift the vehicle by the axles center point.
During this type of work it is necessary to support the vehicle on the longitudinal members in order to be able to move the axle. If this axle is hanging, the shock absorbers (2) can exceed their normal travel distance and get severely damaged. In this case, in order to avoid any type of damage, the shock absorbers must be unfastened at their bottom part before the longitudinal members are choked. In this case, remove the bolts with flange (3) from the front axle.
4 | Support the vehicle on racks placed safety under its longitudinal members, at both sides, in order to be able to work safely. In this position, it will be possible to move the front axle according to the work needs. | The vehicle must not be lifted by a single side. It must be equally lifted at both sides. The stabilizer will remain assembled, as it does not interfere with the work. However, it must be observed.
5 | If necessary, unfasten the front stabilizer side arms. | This procedure permits total freedom to move the front axle being limited only by the springs.
6 | Remove the wheels, if necessary. | The removal of the wheels facilitates the access to the place where the shock absorbers are located, however, if a modern and appropriate lifter where the wheels remain supported is used, it is also possible to remove the shock absorbers without removing the wheels.
Danger! | Risk of severe accidents | Take due care during the cabin tilting operation.
7 | Tilt the cabin up to its final opening position. | Fasten the cabin with the appropriate safety equipment.
8 | Remove from the upper fastenings, the self-locking nuts (5), the fastening bolts with flange (4) and remove the shock absorbers (2). | Take care wit the wiring harness and tubes (7).
| Check | ||
9 | Check the condition of the shock absorbers | Replace the shock absorbers if they present: Leak signs. Worn rods. dented bodies. Loosen or deformed adapters (eye bolts). Damaged bushings (mounts). When tested with equipments that recommend the replacement.
10 | Check the condition of the supports (6) fastened to the longitudinal members. | Replace the supports if necessary.
11 | Install: Assemble new shock absorbers (2) . If necessary, put new nuts (5) and bolts (4) both with flange, tighten them up to the specified torque.
| |||
12 | Install: Fasten the shock absorbers (2) to the lower part of the front axle (1) and tighten them up to the specified torque.
| |||
13 | Install in reverse order.
14 | Carry out a test drive and check the vehicle behavior. |
