With this we would like to notify you about the procedure involved in replacing a wheel carrier (1) of the rear axle on vehicles from model 447 up to vehicle identification number (VIN) 047406.
The geometry of the wheel carrier (1) of the rear axle was changed at the supplier's as from 12. March 2015. With immediate effect only rear-axle wheel carriers (1) with modified geometry are shipped.
When replacing a rear-axle wheel carrier (1) for repair reasons, the manufacture date (arrows) must be checked:
On rear-axle wheel carriers (1) with a manufacture date (arrows) up to 11th March 2015 the wheel carriers (1) must be replaced in pairs. This is the only way of ensuring that the rear axle has a mainly symmetrical wheel position.
On manufacture date (arrows) for both rear-axle wheel carriers (1) as from 12th March 2015, affected wheel carriers (1) can also be replaced individually.
The wheel carriers (1) on the rear axle must always be replaced in pairs up to manufacture date 11. March 2015.
Otherwise, a symmetrical rear-axle wheel position cannot be assured resulting in negative handling characteristics.
Procedure for detecting manufacture date (arrows) on rear-axle wheel carrier (1)
The manufacture date (arrows) is located in the area of the rear-axle wheel carrier (1) as shown in the picture.
Examples for decoding manufacture date on rear-axle wheel carrier (1) | |
070 15 | Replacement in pairs of both rear-axle wheel carriers (1) is mandatory. |
071 15 | Replacement in pairs of both rear-axle wheel carriers (1) is notrequired. |
When ordering a rear-axle wheel carrier (1) (see EPC) this is shipped with an installed wheel hub (2) and installed wheel carrier (3) as an assembly "ZB". The three components form a unit.
The repair documentation for removal/installation of the wheel carrier must always be followed.
