M16/1 EA/CC/ISR actuator
M16/2 Cruise control (CC)/idle speed control (ISC) actuator
M16/3 Right electronic accelerator (EA)/cruise control (CC)/idle speed control (ISC) actuator, positioned on left of engine (engine 120)
M16/4 Left electronic accelerator (EA)/cruise control (CC)/idle speed control (ISC) actuator, positioned on right of engine (engine 120)
Task
Applying the throttle valve position fixed by the EA control module.
Design
The following components are integrated in the actuator:
set value potentiometer
actual value potentiometer
idle speed safety contact
slaved safety contact
positioning motor
clutch
spring capsule with restoring spring
throttle valve
Function
Set value potentiometer
Signals the position of the accelerator pedal to the EA control module.
Actual value potentiometer
Signals the position of the throttle valve to the EA control module.
Idle speed safety contact
Signals the idle speed position of the throttle valve in the actuator to the EA control module.
If the accelerator pedal is not depressed, the idle speed safety contact is closed. If the signal from the idle speed safety contact is plausible, actuation of the fuel pump is enabled. The switching point of the idle speed safety contact is at a positioning angle of approx. 3° above idle speed stop.
Slaved safety contact
Signals the drive position of the throttle valve to the EA control module.
The slaved safety contact is open if the accelerator pedal is not depressed. When the accelerator pedal is depressed, it is closed. The slaved safety contact closes sooner than the idle speed safety contact opens and an overlap thus takes place with the idle speed safety contact. In the normal case, one of the two safety contacts is always closed.
Safety fuel shutoff
Shuts off the fuel supply in the event of a fault in the safety contacts.
Positioning motor
Alters the position of the throttle valve in line with the input signal from the EA control module.
Clutch
Creates the connection between positioning motor and throttle valve.
In the event of a fault at the electronic control functions, the clutch connection is separated and the position of the throttle valve can be altered mechanically (emergency running).
Engine 120
The actuator for the left bank of cylinders (positioned on right of engine) has no mechanical link to the accelerator pedal. In the event of a fault in the electrical/electronic control function, it is no longer possible to open the throttle valve through the accelerator pedal.
