Danger! | Risk of explosion due to fuel vapors, risk of poisoning from inhaling combustion gases and risk of injury through burning during or after heater operation | Do not operate stationary heater, auxiliary heater or engine with heater booster in closed areas or while filling fuel tank. Allow heater unit to cool down after operation and wear protective gloves.
| Remove front left wheel
| Remove noise encapsulation on front left wheel housing
| Unscrew nuts (8) of heater unit fastening on longitudinal frame member
| Unscrew nuts (6) of heater unit fastening below left headlamp unit | Before unscrewing nuts, support heater unit from below
Danger! | Risk of injury to skin and eyes through scalding by hot, pressurized coolant. Risk of poisoning through swallowing coolant | Open cooling system only when coolant temperature is below 90ºC. Slowly unscrew cap and allow the excess pressure to escape. Coolant should not be poured into drinking vessels. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and protective glasses.
| Allow pressure in coolant circuit to escape | Do this by turning cap of coolant reservoir to notch setting 1
| Disconnect coolant lines (1 and 2) to thermostat (5)
| Close off coolant lines (1 and 2) to thermostat (5) | Collect escaping coolant in a clean container and pour back into coolant reservoir after installation of heater unit
| Disconnect fuel feed line (7) and close off on heater unit (A6)
| Guide heater unit (A6) with bracket (11) down and out and unclip couplings (9 and 10) of electric connection cables | Couplings are coded and therefore protected against polarity reversal
| Remove exhaust line with muffler (14) from heater unit (A6)
| Remove circulation pump (A6m1)
| Close off combustion air intake (12) and coolant output line (3) of thermostat (5) on heater unit
| Remove bracket (11) and thermostat (5) by removing screws (13) from heater unit (A6)
| Install in the reverse order
| Vent coolant circuit after installation of heater unit
| Stationary heater diagnosis
| Inspect cooling system for leaks |
