No fires, sparks, open flames or smoking. Pour fuels into suitable and appropriately marked containers only.
Wear protective clothing when handling fuel.

Remove/install

Switch off ignition

Remove side paneling

Only if fitted.

Open cap (3) on fuel tank

Drain fuel tank

 Collect fuel in a suitable safety container.

Detach electrical connection (1) from fuel level sensor (B39)

Remove fuel lines (2) at fuel level sensor (B39)

Remove fuel line (5)

Only on vehicles with auxiliary fuel tank.

 Installation: Install new sealing rings.

 Banjo bolt, fuel line to fuel tank

Unscrew nuts at tensioning straps (4)

 Installation: Pay attention to correct position of anti-chafe bands on tensioning straps (4).

 Nut, retainer strap to fuel tank

Fold up tensioning straps (4), and remove fuel tank from fuel tank brackets

 Installation: Stick new chafe protection straps to fuel tank mounting consoles on frame side.

Remove fuel level sensor (B39)

Only if fuel tank is replaced.

 Installation: Replace sealing ring.

Clean inside of fuel tank, and dispose of it according to respective national regulations

Only if fuel tank is replaced.

Install in the reverse order

Start engine and perform an engine test run

14

Switch off engine and check connections on fuel tank and fuel level sensor (B39) for leaktightness

 Visual inspection.
