Program

1

Connect diagnostic system and start XENTRY.

2

Move front wheels to straight-ahead position by driving vehicle forward for a short distance on a level surface, along as straight a line as possible.

Do not release the steering wheel during forward travel. The active axle response of the electromechanical controller unit sets the front wheels at a vehicle speed of > 0 km/h to the last programmed straight-ahead position. When the vehicle is stationary, this function is deactivated and you can let go of the steering wheel.

3

Perform teach-in process for straight-ahead position and steering limitations.

The teach-in process is fully menu-assisted, under:
APS - Electrohydraulic power steering (A73)
Adaptations
Learning processes

If the teach-in process for the straight-ahead position has been completed (before the steering limiters be taught in),

position all steerable wheels centrally on the turntables.

4

End XENTRY and remove the diagnostic system.

5

If necessary, move steering wheel to center position by turning steering shaft at steering gear.

AR46.10-W-7310H

The installation position of the universal joints must not be changed relative to each other.
If one of the universal joints is installed offset, this can result in asymmetrical steering movement and uneven steering forces.

Do not turn steering wheel by any more than half a turn to the left or the right when the steering shaft has been removed.
Otherwise the clock spring contact may be damaged.

To move the steering wheel to the center position, do not detach the upper steering shaft from the lower steering shaft but instead detach the lower steering shaft from the bracket and from the steering gear and turn together with the upper steering shaft.

6

Remove all turn plates.

7

Conduct a road test.

During the road test check the overall steering behavior of the vehicle.
