Remove safety screw (122) from brake drum (119).

Remove brake drum (119).

The parking brake must be disengaged completely.

If the brake drum (119) cannot be removed,

release brake shoes by turning back the automatic adjuster.

Remove lower return spring (1) of brake shoes.

Remove nuts (3) of bearing cap (4) from axle tube.

Remove rear axle shaft (2).


On vehicles with ABS, do not damage the pulse ring.
Otherwise the ABS is deactivated.

Remove O-ring from compressed ring.

Remove seal between bearing cap (4) and brake carrier plate.

Install

Insert seal between bearing cap (4) and brake carrier plate.

Replace seal.

Install O-ring on compressed ring.

Replace O-ring.

Install rear axle shaft (2).


On vehicles with ABS, do not damage the pulse ring.
Otherwise the ABS is deactivated.


The marking of the direction of rotation on the rear axle shaft (2) must match the actual direction of rotation during forward travel.
Otherwise, greater axle damage will occur.

Before sliding in, make sure that the O-ring is on the compressed ring.

Attach nuts (3) of bearing cap (4).


Attach nuts (3) evenly in a crosswise pattern until the bearing cap (4) makes contact with the axle tube. Then tighten each in a crosswise pattern by half a turn until the specified tightening torque is reached.
Otherwise, the bearing cap (4) will work loose.

If problems exist,

replace lower return spring (1).

Install lower return spring (1) of brake shoes.

Replace safety screw (122).
