Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform.

Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.

Remove/install

Operate parking brake.

Release each nut (1) on front axle shaft (6).


Do not move the vehicle with loosened nut (1).
Otherwise, the wheel bearing may be damaged.

 The front wheel must be touching the ground.

Remove each front wheel.

Remove bottom engine compartment paneling.

 Installation: Only install lower engine compartment paneling after leak test.

Drain fluid from transmission.

Remove nut (1).

 Installation: Replace nut (1).

 Nut, front axle shaft to wheel bearing

Remove left front axle rpm sensor (L6/1) or right front axle rpm sensor (L6/2) and electrical wiring harness (2) from steering knuckle and transverse control arm (4).

Remove brake hose (3) from suspension strut.

Remove transverse control arm (4) from steering knuckle.

 Remove screw (5) to do this.

 Bolt with nut, steering knuckle to transverse control arm

Remove front axle shaft (6) from steering knuckle.

If the front axle shaft (6) is stuck,



push front axle shaft (6) out of wheel hub.

Remove bolt (7) from support bushing.

When removing right front axle shaft (6).

 Installation: Replace bolt (7).

 Bolt, support bushing of front axle shaft

Remove front axle shaft (6) from transmission flange and take out.

Remove respective radial shaft sealing ring from transmission flange.

 Installation: Replace radial shaft sealing ring.

Install in the reverse order.



 Warning

Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Perform engine test run, while doing so check engine and transmission for proper operation and leak tightness.
