Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.
Do not pour transmission oil into beverage bottles.

Remove

1

Shift automatic transmission into neutral position.

Unscrew cap from coolant expansion reservoir.

Remove lower engine compartment paneling.

 Ensure that vehicle is level in longitudinal and transverse direction on vehicle lift.

Thoroughly clean automatic transmission oil cooler (1) and the area surrounding it.

Remove transmission oil lines (3) from automatic transmission oil cooler (1) and collect escaping automatic transmission fluid for determining the quantity of automatic transmission fluid.

Seal openings in automatic transmission oil cooler (1) using stop plugs.

Disconnect coolant hoses (4).

 Clamp

Remove coolant hoses (4) from automatic transmission oil cooler (1) and collect escaping coolant.

Seal coolant hoses (4) and connections of coolant hoses (4) on automatic transmission oil cooler (1) with protective covers.

Remove screws (5).

Remove automatic transmission oil cooler (1) downwards.



Install

Position automatic transmission oil cooler (1) onto torque converter housing.

Tighten bolts (5).

Remove protective covers from coolant hoses (4) and connections of coolant hoses (4) on automatic transmission oil cooler (1).

Mount coolant hoses (4) to automatic transmission oil cooler (1).

Remove clamps from coolant hoses (4).

Remove stop plugs from openings in automatic transmission oil cooler (1).

Mount transmission oil lines (3) to automatic transmission oil cooler (1).

Check

Correct coolant level and check engine cooling system for leak tightness.

 Install bottom engine compartment lining only after the leak test.

Fill automatic transmission with automatic transmission fluid.

 Install bottom engine compartment lining only after the leak test.

 Warning

Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Perform engine test run and check automatic transmission in area of automatic transmission oil cooler (1) for leak tightness.

Install lower engine compartment paneling.
