Remove/install

Clamp off ground line of on-board electrical system battery (G1).

Remove air filter housing.

Remove liquid-cooled charge air cooler from brackets and pull toward the front.

 Coolant hoses do not have to be disconnected.

Unclip bleed valve (4) from bracket.

Unclip electric line with suitable tool from liquid-cooled charge air cooler.

Unclip electric line (5) from bottom cylinder head cover trim.

Unscrew bolt (6s), remove nut (6m) and remove bottom bracket from liquid-cooled charge air cooler.

Release and disconnect electrical connector from rail and place electrical wiring harness above the bracket.

Remove contact protection of the circuit 30 electric line from the starter (M1).

Remove electric line of circuit 30 connection (1) from starter (M1).

Remove electric line of circuit 50 connection (2) from starter (M1).

 Nut, circuit 50 connection

Remove bolts (3) of starter (M1) from transmission bell housing.

 Bolt, starter to transmission

Remove side starter (M1) upward.



Check

Check pinion of the starter (M1) for damage and wear.

If the starter (M1) is reused.

If damage or wear can be identified,



replace starter (M1) and check starter ring gear on flywheel/drive plate for wear and damage.

Turn engine at the crankshaft in the direction of engine rotation and check starter ring gear on the flywheel/drive plate for wear and damage.

If damage and wear can be identified on the pinion of the starter (M1).

If damage or wear can be identified,



Replace flywheel/drive plate.
