 Warning

Risk of injury to skin and eyes suffering scalding from contact with hot coolantspray. Risk of poisoning from swallowing coolant.

Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90 °C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.
Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.

Remove exhaust pipe downstream of the exhaust gas turbocharger.

3.1

Remove coolant hose from the coolant connection (3).

Model 470, 471 with engine 699.300/301/302/303

 Collect escaping coolant using suitable vessel. Plug openings.

 Commercially available devices/tools
Hose clamp pliers with wire cable

 Installation: Check clamp for damage.

 Set of protective caps

If damage exists,



Replace clamp.

3.2

Remove the coolant hose (11) from the coolant connection (12).

Model 470 with engine 699.304/305

 Installation:
Observe alignment of the coolant hose (11) relative to the coolant connection (12).
Otherwise, damage to the coolant hose will occur (11).

 To do this, remove clamp (13).
Collect escaping coolant using suitable vessel. Plug openings.

Hose clamp pliers with wire cable

 Installation: Check clamp (13) for damage.

Replace clamp (13).

Remove hose from the vacuum connection (4).

5.1

Remove coolant pipe (6) from the exhaust gas recirculation cooler (1).

 Remove screw (5) to do this. Collect escaping coolant using suitable vessel.

Remove bracket (14) from the exhaust gas recirculation cooler (1).

 Remove screw/bolt (15) to do this.

Remove the coolant hose (8) at the coolant connection (9).

 To do this, actuate lock (10).

 Collect escaping coolant using suitable vessel. Plug openings.

Remove screws (7).

Remove the exhaust gas recirculation cooler (1).

 To do this, remove screws (2). Collect escaping coolant using suitable vessel.

 Bolt, exhaust gas recirculation cooler to crankcase

Install in the reverse order.



 Warning

Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.
