Series production breakpoint changed for EATU (1)
Modified EATUs (1) have been installed for some time now in the series production of engines with the Euro VI standard engine version. The series production breakpoints for these so-called EATU Generation II unit were as follows:
01.10.2013: Exhaust system, exhaust below, spread to the right
01.01.2014: Exhaust system, exhaust tailpipe to outer right
01.04.2014: Exhaust system, exhaust tailpipe upwards
Visual differentiating characteristic
Only one temperature sensor, instead of two, is now installed on the front side. By contrast, the tensioning straps (3) do not provide any conclusive information, as they are partly also available on the older Generation I EATUs, when their quick-release couplings are replaced as part of a repair operation.
Differences in detail
The differences of the previously installed Generation I EATUs are described below in detail in the BT document.
Important information on replacing EATU (1)
If a Generation I exhaust aftertreatment unit (1) is replaced by a Generation II exhaust aftertreatment unit (1), then the information given below in the BT document and e revised repair instructions on replacing an exhaust aftertreatment unit (1) must be observed. Observe the information on "re-locating“ the exhaust aftertreatment (ACM) control unit and the documentation for performing repair work on the EATS.
Otherwise, consequential damage may occur through an improper repair.
Example: Additional entries
In addition to the entries already available, revisions must also be made to the variant parts lists (SAA) when replacing an EATU (1). This is the only way to ensure that the correct replacement pats will be available in the Electronic Parts Catalog (EPC) at a later point in time. See hereto the respectively adapted work instructions for documentation of repair work performed on the EATS.
Example: "Re-locate" control unit and filing information on AGN Box Wave 2
As previously, the exhaust aftertreatment control unit (ACM) has to be "re-located" to enable future control unit software updates to be made. When replacing a Generation I exhaust aftertreatment unit with a Generation II exhaust aftertreatment unit, AGN Box Wave 2 is also filed. When replacing the software, the diagnostic system uses this information to check which exhaust aftertreatment unit (1) generation is installed in the vehicle. This means that the correct software can be downloaded onto the exhaust aftertreatment (ACM) control unit.
Update of software release on exhaust aftertreatment control unit (ACM)
After replacing an EATU (1) the software release is usually updated on the exhaust aftertreatment control unit (ACM). The diagnostic system has the latest software for engines that are equipped with a Generation II exhaust aftertreatment unit (1) and that bear the AGN Box Wave 2 designation.
