Notes

For reasons of corrosion protection, the cooling system must be filled in summer and winter (all year) with the following coolant mixture:

50 % by vol. of fresh water

50 % by vol. of anticorrosion/antifreeze agent

This regulation applies also without the restrictions to countries in tropical regions.

The portion of anticorrosion/antifreeze agent must not exceed 55 % by volume. This ensures that the maximum antifreeze protection is achieved down to -40 °C. If too much anticorrosion/antifreeze agent is poured in, increased coolant temperatures are likely.

Modern engines make increasing use of components made of light alloy (aluminium alloys), e. g. radiator, cylinder head and water pump. Contrary to the general opinion that "aluminium cannot rust", it is particularly these components which have to be especially protected against corrosion. This can only be assured by using the specified coolant mixture.

Adding coolant to system

-------------------------------

1 Pour coolant into the radiator.

Note

The coolant must be between the markings (MAX) and (MIN).

2 T2:

Pour in coolant up to the marking (MAX) on the expansion reservoir (3) (arrow).

3 Screw reservoir cap (1) tight.

4 Run engine until the thermostat opens (coolant temperature approx. 90 - 100 °C).

The reservoir cap must be opened carefully.

5 Check coolant level, top up coolant if necessary.

6 Check antifreeze protection; alter mixing ratio to correct ratio if necessary.

7 Check cooling system for leaks (20-1010).
