Preceding work:

Coolant drained (20-010).

Radiator removed (20-420).

Poly V-belt removed (see Group 13).

Viscous fan coupling removed (20-312).

Battery

disconnect negative terminal, connect.

Bolts (2) of coolant pump belt pulley

slacken, tighten, 10 Nm.

Torx socket bolts 15 Nm.

Special tools 001 589 66 21 00 and

603 589 00 40 00.

Poly V-belt

remove, install (see Group 13).

Belt pulley (5)

unbolt, bolt on.

Coolant hose (3) and heating water hose (4) at coolant pump housing

disconnect, connect.

Generator (15)

remove, install (15-5032).

Supporting bracket of generator (16)

remove, install, 25 Nm.

Coolant pump housing (11) together with coolant pump (6)

remove, install, 10 Nm.

Pull off coolant pump housing when taking off heating return flow pipe (18), fit on. Moisten seal (17) with coolant. Do not use oil.

Gasket (14)

replace. Clean sealing surfaces.

Coolant pump (6)

unbolt, bolt on, 10 Nm.

Gasket (10)

replace. Clean sealing surface.

Tightening torques in Nm

Note

Coolant pumps with drainage pipes (1) have been installed since 01/92. Any coolant which may occasionally flow out of the vent drilling in the coolant pump housing flow down this pipe.

This avoids any smears of residues in the direct field of view.

The coolant pump should only be replaced if coolant is found in the expansion reservoir as a result of a leak at the coolant pump.

Coolant pumps for installing drainage pipes are supplied through the Parts Sector. The drainage pipe should always be installed or replaced at the same time when installing the coolant pump.

The drainage pipe can also be retrofitted.
