Remove/install

Danger!

Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off the lifting platform.

Align vehicle between columns of vehicle lift and position four support plates at vehicle lift support points specified by vehicle manufacturer.

Notes on self-locking nuts and bolts

When working on exhaust system, connecting points have to be cleaned from combustion and corrosion residues before the installation of parts. Replace sealing ring (23) as well as bolts and nuts

Remove diagonal strut

 Only on vehicles with panoramic glass roof with top sliding roof, code 413.

Support exhaust system from flange connection below the center muffler (3) (arrow A)

 Use a suitable transmission jack.

Remove bolts (14) and strut (13)



Remove nuts as well as bolts (15) on flange connection

 Installation: Check correct seating of sealing ring (23) and flange (25).



Release clamp (16)

 Slide released hose clamp toward front onto left catalytic converter. Replace defective or corroded hose clamp.



Remove bolts (17) on middle exhaust rubber mount (18)



Remove bolts (22) on inner exhaust rubber mount (21)

Remove bolts (19) on outer exhaust rubber mount (20)

Remove exhaust system from flange connection

 Push exhaust system from flange connection onwards to the rear (arrow B) until center muffler (3) detaches from catalytic converter pipe.

 Do not damage surrounding components. To prevent damage, do not let exhaust system, from flange connection, hang on the right catalytic converter.

 Installation: Observe correct installation position of sealing ring (23) and flange (25). The chamfer of the sealing ring as well as shoulder on the flange are pointing in the direction of the center muffler. Slide both parts onto the right catalytic converter before exhaust system is positioned. from the flange connection.

 Installation: Do not damage paintwork on rear bumper with outer exhaust rubber mount (20)!



Checking

Check exhaust rubber mount, hose clamp (16) and flange (25)

 Check for damage and wear; replace if necessary.

Install in the reverse order



Check installation position and for unobstructed movement of entire exhaust system

 The exhaust system must be mounted free of tension; align exhaust system if required.

 Danger!

Risk of accident caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running

Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.
